Misspelled text on a sign: Authorized Personal Only

Weekly Photo Challenge: The Sign Says

June 6, 2013 by ruthincolorado

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is The Sign Says. Hmmm…can something personal be authorized?? 😉 Local unemployed editors in Pittsburgh might want to swing by the human resources office at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center with a copy of this image. This is a fabulous convention center, by the way. It incorporates many green design features, including daylighting, and has observation decks over Pittsburgh’s Allegheny River. Quite nice. I love silly signs. If you do too, you can see […]

Travel Theme: Contrast

April 20, 2013 by ruthincolorado

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Contrast, and she’s asking her readers whether they’re ready to break out their inner dissidents and celebrate nonconformity. I think this shopkeeper is, for sure! I took this photo day before yesterday while passing through the beautiful town of Chama in northern New Mexico. We were returning from a camping trip to a wilderness area near the Navajo Reservation, but we ran into some of the worst weather I’ve ever endured in a tent. […]

A sign that says: Welcome to Knowles, Wisconsin. Population: Not Many

Welcome to Knowles, Wisconsin

June 19, 2012 by ruthincolorado

I was driving through rural Wisconsin last week, taking photos of the wind farm near Fond du Lac, when I came across yet another sleepy farm town. The people who live in this one seem to have a great sense of humor.

Food on the Waves

March 14, 2012 by ruthincolorado

On the southern coast of Crete you’ll find the delightful, tiny town of Tersa and Tavern Sophokles. We placed our order at the beach cabana bar, and then the proprietors dashed down the street to prepare our meal in their home kitchen (!). We dined on the lounge chairs you can see in the background while enjoying the view of the Libyan Sea. After delicious Greek salads for lunch,we were served shots of raki, alcohol made from fermented grape skins. […]

March 8, 2012 by ruthincolorado

The sign says: “For Sale: Nothings Says I Love You Like His & Her Mogs.” Ah, yes. His and hers Unimogs…for the couple who likes to invade countries together…or…? I think that this scene ranks in my Top 5 Weirdest Things Seen While Out and About.

a sign states: "Do Not Handle Bats"

Bat Emergence!

February 6, 2012 by ruthincolorado

Although I’ve always been crazy about nature and its inhabitants (even the not-so-cuddly ones), I never had a special place in my heart for bats…until I saw millions of them emerge from an abandoned railroad tunnel deep in the heart of Texas. My new admiration for winged mammals had an unlikely beginning: a 2007 business trip to Fredericksburg, about 70 miles west of Austin. I knew I’d have free time in the evenings during my trip, so I researched things […]
