Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. I’m Ruth, and I live in a remote mountain community in Colorado, just north of the New Mexico border, with my partner and three dogs. By day I’m a technical writer and editor, which pays the bills and also pays for my travel addiction. In my spare time I love to explore new places with a camera in hand. I’ve been restless for my entire life, and travel is the only antidote.
I started this blog in 2011 while recovering from a broken foot, hoping that it would motivate me to organize and scan the thousands of images I’ve collected over the years, and serve as a reminder to hit the road more often for travel and photography fixes. So far, so good. I never expected the surprise bonus from this endeavor: meeting so many like-minded bloggers from all over the world. I now have virtual friends in the USA, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, India, Turkey, Canada, Sweden, the Philippines, Finland, and other places I’m probably forgetting to mention. This community is amazing, and I’ve learned so much from everyone! Your photos and blog posts are truly inspiring.
I hope you enjoy my perspectives. If you’re so inclined, please leave a comment, share a travel tip, or shoot me a message via the contact form below. I’d love to hear from you.
Hi there! Thank you so much for adding me in your blogroll. I’ll do the same because your photos are amazing!

I’m sure you have fielded this question a million times, but how did you break your foot? Feel free to embellish as much as possible. “Well, it all started on board a pirate ship in the South Pacific…”

Well, the story isn’t very exciting. I wish I could say that I was hang-gliding in the Dolomites or climbing in Patagonia or doing something on a pirate ship, but the sad truth is that as I was running to catch a train in Munich, my shoe slipped off and the outside of my foot hit the pavement. Boo! On my first full day of vacation, no less. 😦

Hey there, Ruth – I don’t know how you stumbled across my blog, but glad you did…thank you for letting me know you were there.
It seems that we’ve traveled some of the same “trails.” I lived in Germany for over 10 years, Colorado for almost six…and now live here in Utah…and you’ve shared some beautiful photos of those places here in your blog…memories and “pictures of home.” Thank you. 🙂

I really like your Colorado photos. We lived outside Grand Junction in Fruita for about 4 years and at times I really miss the Grand Mesa and the Colorado National Monument. I took a lot of photos with a Kodak 110 Instamatic camera back then, so I really appreciate your wonderful photos. They have stirred up some fine memories.
Somewhere I may still have the coffee cup that says: When you are tired of Colorado, you are tired of life. A fine sentiment and it certainly applies to me today – I am energized.

Allan, thanks for stopping by and making my day. I would love to see your Colorado photos too. It’s easy to love this beautiful state! I need to look for a coffee cup like the one you describe. 😉

I, too, have a scanner that I need to set up. Once I set it up and make an adapter for the 110 film I will definitely scan some photos. Until then I will enjoy yours. Thanks.

Hey: love the blog! I’ve dipped into a number of posts already, Colorado because we had a wonderful time in the state almost 2 years ago, and Texas because we are bound there next week. We hope to visit what used to be No Man’s Land in Oklahoma because of its dust bowl associations. Ken Burns, the documentary genius, has much to answer for! Glad you like “In search of unusual destinations”, by the way. Phil.

Hi Phil,
I’ve only been through Oklahoma once, years ago on the way to Oklahoma City. I remember being surprised at how green it was because I always thought it would be like a dust bowl. This is a great time of year to visit that part of the country. Be sure to post about your trip!
Love your blog too, and thanks for the extra info about Transylvania. I really appreciate it, and now I am really itching to go. If you’re on Facebook, check out the page of From Transylvania with Love. They post the most AMAZING photos. I like to visit off-the-beaten-path places, and it looks like Transylvania fits the bill.
Sunday is my fun day, so I’ll read some more of your posts tomorrow. Happy travels!
