Windmill

Recently I visited a couple in Salida, Colorado, who are the proud owners of an old homestead. They lovingly restored the home, built at the turn of the century, rather than tearing it down and building new. They’re thrilled with the the apple orchard on their property, planted many years ago and still producing. And they refurbished this old windmill, lying on its side by the barn, that came with their property purchase. They commissioned a new wooden lattice tower to support it.

Out of curiosity, I Googled the name on the windmill’s tail, Baker Manufacturing.

The company is still in business, and according to their About Us page:

In 1874 they began manufacturing windmills under the Monitor name. This was the start of what would become a long list of innovative products for the water industry. By 1926 they were selling their windmills worldwide.

I love seeing restored objects from a bygone era. This little windmill made my day.
