Ailsa’s invited us to participate in her new travel theme, Big. Juxtaposing this homestead with the Sangre de Cristo peaks in the background of this image helps to convey how massive these mountains are. Their range extends from the Colorado town of Poncha Springs into New Mexico near Santa Fe, and it includes several fourteeners (Colorado-speak for a mountain taller than 14,000 feet). Click on the image to see the homestead better. Thanks for the theme, Ailsa, and for the opportunity to use the excellent word “juxtaposing” in a post.
Ah, the Sangre De Cristo mountains… I’ve been there…beautiful part of the world 🙂
I love Colorado. Though going up Pike’s Peak nearly killed me….

Ah, understood. I live at ~8,300 feet. You do have to get used to it. And not expect your pasta water to boil quickly…

What…? I thought it would boil more quickly, but at a lower temperature?

Yes, you are right. I should have said not expect your pasta to cook as quickly. It seems to take forever. 😉

Yes, that totally makes sense. How frustrating! Instant noodles… 😉

Another beautiful mountain range in Colorado. We sure take our time crossing Wolf Creek Pass while pulling the RV!

Have you traveled in that area since the fires?
LikeLike
No, we drove through last November. Pueblo West did receive a lot of smoke from the Fork fire though. We crossed the divide this summer via I-70. I understand it was pretty bad 😦

Beautiful pictures! I hiked quite a few 14ers in that area early summer and I am doing Mt. Evans in a couple weeks 🙂 Have you stopped by Elevation? I like that brewery! 🙂

Ruth, reminds me a lot of what we saw in Germany’s Alps last winter! How long have you lived in Colorado?
LikeLike
So I’ve moved away and returned a number of times, but altogether I’ve lived in Colorado for about 25 years. I’ve spent more time here than in any other location.
